This site is free to read and is funded by advertising and, where present, affiliate commissions. This page explains what that means for the reader.
Display advertising
Display advertising on this site is served by Google and by other third-party advertising networks. Ad units are labelled Advertisement and are visually separated from editorial content. Advertising creative is not presented as an article, a headline, a navigation element or a recommendation.
Search advertising
The search box on this site follows the Google AdSense for Search pattern. Searches return results drawn from this site's own article library, and the same page may carry clearly labelled sponsored units supplied by an advertising network. Sponsored units are labelled separately from site results. Advertising is never inserted to appear as though it were a search result from this site.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to retailers may be affiliate links, meaning the site may receive a commission if a purchase follows, at no additional cost to the buyer. Affiliate arrangements do not influence which products are covered or how they are assessed, and the presence of an affiliate link is never the reason a product is recommended. Where a product is unsuitable for a given use, the article says so regardless of any commercial relationship.
Product category shortcuts
The keyword shortcuts below the search box lead to category overview pages on this site. Outbound retailer links from those pages are activated only once final links are confirmed, and once active they are treated as affiliate links in accordance with the paragraph above.
Sponsored content
Paid placements or sponsored articles, if ever published, are labelled as sponsored at the top of the page and are excluded from comparisons and buying guides. No advertiser receives advance sight of an editorial article, and no advertiser is permitted to alter a conclusion after publication.
Cookies and consent
Advertising cookies are set only with consent where consent is required. Details, including how to withdraw consent, are in the Cookie Policy and the Privacy Policy.
